Expert tip for  family photo ideas.... go to a place that is interesting to the youngest of the kids.

Family photos can be hard, especially when  some of your subject(s) are young children whose interest in being photographed is getting shorter by the second. When I know that the kids are young, especially when they are in the 20month to 3.5 year range, I always suggest scheduling the session in a place that will be new and interesting to the toddler as well as visually pleasing. This way I can let the kid run free (ish) and have some fun while gaining trust that I am not going to be yet another adult telling them to sit still and to not move.

My favorite fpr family photo ideas is to go to the beach. Most of the time the beach is an epic adventure to young kids, and unless it's mid summer in Seattle, the beach is usually not crazy busy.

The beach idea gives us plenty of space to run and play, while sneaky like getting some posed photos in the mix for mom and mom in this case :)

I loved how this session of little Rhys and his moms turned out. His outfit was amazing as it made him look like he could instantly transport to the 1930s, but it didn't look intentional. Rhys was fun to watch play, see his reaction when the rocks hit the water, to see him running with the birds, and just be an adorable and sweet 2 year old.
