Being an aunt or uncle is a special thing. You have a bond with your nieces and nephews unlike any other... until you've had your own child. I loved these outdoor maternity photos for many reasons, but most of all because it means that my awesome brother and sister in law were about to find out just what it means to be a parent. Caleb & Karine are not only my family, but some of my best friends. They've been amazing Auntie and Uncle to my kids, and watching them transform into parents themselves has been so fun. From the moment we found out they were expecting (as I was expecting then too) Pete and I have been stoked. Karine and I laughing because we forgot what we were talking about mid conversation, ( I don't know how any pregnant ladies can keep a conversation growing), to all of us speculating on boy or girl. Knowing that if they had a girl, then Scarlett (my daughter), just 6 months older would have a built in best friend, and if they had a boy, then Scarlett would have a built in best friend or built in enemy.... alternating by the day I am sure.
When we found out they were having a girl, we were stoked... and also excited to see Caleb with a daughter. Watching Caleb transform as he watched Scarlett...very attentive to what stages she was at, while they waited for the 6 months to pass from Scarlett's birth to when their little girl arrived. You could tell he just wanted to soak in every detail of the world of babies, so he would know just what to do when he held his own daughter in his hands.
We were one of the first to find out their daughter, Remy's name... and the only reason is because Caleb and Karine are horrible liars :)
So, when the time came for their outdoor maternity photos we chose Hamlin park down the street from their house. We played in the early summer light, laughing and wondering just what little Remy would be like. I was lucky that they were family on this particular shoot as, while the images are beautiful, I was having a day where technology and I were not on the same wavelength and nothing seemed to work as it should. Caleb and Karine took it all in stride, and handled all the little changes without issue. That's a key thing to be able to do when you have a new baby.
So enjoy these outdoor maternity photos at Shoreline's Hamlin Park. You can feel the anticipation in the air and how comfortable these two are in each others arms. They are a team, which is so important as you start life with a new little.
